The "Emerging Arbitration Workshop" is tailored for individuals with an interest or qualification in arbitration, particularly those who do not yet hold an RI grading above “Grade 3”. This workshop is specifically designed for “emerging arbitrators” to enhance their skills and knowledge.
Participants will have the opportunity to engage with graded arbitrators and other professional colleagues in a relaxed, interactive, and participative environment. The workshop will encourage active contributions from attendees through pre-allocated questions. These questions will serve as the foundation for discussions throughout the day, fostering participant interaction, all facilitated by experienced graded arbitrators from the organising committee.
The workshop will cover typical issues encountered in arbitration, such as challenges to jurisdiction, managing the arbitration process, and practical tips on award writing. Participants will be encouraged to share and exchange their personal experiences and raise topics for discussion, fostering a collaborative learning environment.
There will be no formal assessment, but all participants will receive a certificate in recognition of their attendance at the all-day workshop and can gain valuable CPD for attendance. This event is ideal for those looking to refresh their knowledge of arbitration, network and learn with peers, and sharpen their existing skills.

Janet Grey
Janet is an arbitrator and mediator who specialises in dispute resolution in the construction industry and related professional matters.
Janet’s experience as an arbitrator extends back over a 30-year period. She also works as a referee under the uniform Civil Procedure Rules, where she hears disputes referred out by the Supreme and District Courts of NSW and has practised in this area for more than 25 years. In addition, she acts as an expert determiner, mediator and conciliator.
