Developing Responses to Complaints of Sexual Harassment
The AHRC Inquiry 2020 found sexual harassment in Australian workplaces to be both pervasive and preventable. The AHRC report states sexual harassment impacts as many as one in three workers. and of those affected, 18% do not report the incidents to their managers. More importantly, it is a persistent social problem driven by gender inequality and often exacerbated for certain groups.

As dispute resolvers we work with the principle of ‘do no harm’. Sexual harassment however is often conduct of a demeaning nature – causing someone to lose dignity, their sense of personal security and be injured. Care and attention is required in any response.

Paula will take you along Australia's recent journey in developing responses to sexual harassment and explore ways we, as dispute resolvers, may safely address associated complaints of discrimination, workplace sexual harassment and victimisation in the workplace.
