      Mediation Accreditation Assessment

Mediator accreditation gives you a recognised qualification that shows you've met training and competence standards and are committed to continuous learning. It gives you the credibility to establish and grow yourself as a mediator.

A virtual mediation assessment is a simulated mediation conducted using Zoom. During the simulated mediation, you will play the role of a Mediator, and volunteers will play the role of the two parties in the simulated dispute.

      How do I register?

To register, select from the dates shown below. Then click on the "Register Now" button to the right of the screen within that date. You then need to select the time you would like to do your virtual mediation assessment.

Once you have registered and payment is made for your virtual mediation accreditation assessment, the Assessment Coordinator will contact you within five business days of receiving your registration to provide further details.

Are there any prerequisites to applying for a mediation accreditation assessment?

To be able to sit a Virtual Mediation Accreditation Assessment, you must have:

      • Applied to Resolution Institute to have your prior training recognised as having met the requirements of the approval standards of either Australia (AMDRAS) or New Zealand (NZMAS)

How is the Virtual Mediation Accreditation Assessment conducted?

One week prior to your virtual mediation assessment, you will receive a confirmation email which contains a guide to virtual mediation assessments, a self-assessment form, a simulated mediation scenario and a Zoom meeting link. Prior to the virtual mediation assessment, you will be invited to run through the Zoom controls with the Assessment Coordinator, to ensure you are familiar with the system.

There are three parts to your virtual mediation assessment:

      1. Pre-assessment Questionnaire: When we have received your virtual mediation assessment registration, we will email you a questionnaire to complete along with supporting materials to read, digest and use to complete the questionnaire along with your own experience. We will provide you with a date to return this questionnaire; however, this must be done prior to your assessment date.
      2. Mediation Scenario: During the simulated mediation, you will play the role of a Mediator, and volunteers will play the role of the two parties in the simulated dispute. The simulated mediation session must be 1.5-2 hours long, and a Resolution Institute Assessor will be present throughout. You will be emailed the common facts for your simulated mediation a week prior to your assessment.
      3. Post-assessment self-assessment: After your simulated mediation, you must complete the questions in the self-assessment form, reflecting on what you think you did well and what you could have done better. We will email you the self-assessment form with your preparation materials.

Once our Assessor has received all of the required documentation from you, they will consider your questionnaire, simulated mediation and self-assessment responses to determine whether you have demonstrated competency or not yet demonstrated competency. Depending on the assessor's availability, we email the you the outcome within four weeks.

How long does the accreditation assessment take to complete?

In Australia for the AMDRAS standards, the assessment will take approximately 2-2.5 hours.

In New Zealand for the NZMAS standards, the assessment will take approximately 2 hours.

Your next steps after completing the assessment...

After completing the virtual mediation accreditation assessment:

      • If you are assessed as demonstrating competency, Resolution Institute will then inform you that you are eligible to hold a Resolution Institute Mediation Accreditation. In order to hold this accreditation, you are required to hold a Professional membership with Resolution Institute. Once you have created a Professional membership, your Resolution Institute Mediation Accreditation will be confirmed and added to your profile.
      • If you are assessed as having not yet demonstrated competency, you will be contacted by the Assessment Coordinator, who will provide you with a copy of your assessment report and recording. They will be available to support you in working through the areas that need improving and preparing you for another virtual mediation assessment. Resolution Institute supports any additional assessment attempts by providing them at a reduced rate.
