Resolution Institute Restorative Practice Accreditation

Restorative Practice is increasingly recognised for its ability to resolve harms (or conflict) that other resolution approaches cannot. It does this by prioritising people's needs in repairing the harm done, restoring dignity, and preventing further harm.

The Resolution Institute's Restorative Practice Accreditation course is designed to meet the Restorative Practice Competency Framework and establishes a professional accreditation in restorative practice for New Zealand practitioners. It supports the learning and understanding of the practical application of the core and fundamental competencies of restorative practice in relation to the learning objectives and assessment standards detailed within the framework and highlighted below. This ensures that practitioners can successfully apply restorative principles across diverse contexts (e.g., education, healthcare, marae, workplaces).

Get accredited

The pathway to accreditation for aspiring practitioners is that they should be able to identify the principles and articulate their foundational knowledge of restorative practices, dispute resolution, or mediation by having either of the following:

  1. Completed the Victoria University of Wellington Restorative Practice Foundation: Principles and Applications of Restorative Practice Micro-credential, or
  2. Have and can demonstrate prior learning or knowledge, such as extensive experience in mediation and/or other restorative justice methods

This pathway may require some aspiring practitioners to undergo various additional elements of training, such as:

This can be seen within the diagram to the right.

Once completed, each aspiring practitioner will be required to undergo and pass an assessment before an accreditation is awarded. The following areas will be assessed:

  • Demonstrating documentation management, including hui planning and case reflections
  • Te Reo Maori understanding
  • Observation Assessment of a hui and post-hui self-reflections
  • Assessed Professional Conversation to demonstrate your understanding of judgement, competence and self-development
