Justine Davis contributed towards “Intercultural peacemaking - both ways of learning: the Mawul Rom journey” as recently presented at the National Mediation Conference. Justine uses her social justice conflict resolution skills to advocate for peaceful change, including the coordination of a campaign to advocate for funding to be extended to the NT Community Justice Centre (CJC), to enable it to continue to provide Territory-wide conflict resolution and mediation training.
Dr. Jaireth made significant contributions towards ensuring the review of the Farm Debt Mediation Act (NSW) took place, and that it was subsequently adopted in Aotearoa New Zealand. Through the adoption of this Act, her efforts aided the peaceful settlement of numerous conflicts between farmers and their creditors, offering a measure of relief to an economy burdened by the challenges of COVID-19.
Wayne has demonstrated the capacity to enhance community peace building through a range of dispute resolution services including mediation, restorative justice and capacity development work. In particular, Wayne's efforts to support community recovery from the Christchurch shooting are exemplary of the types of peacemaking that help communities heal and move forward through conflict.
The recipient of the 2018 Resolution Institute Michael Klug Award in recognition of her contribution to the peaceful resolution of conflict within Aboriginal communities throughout WA. With an ability to bridge the cultural divides with respect and authority, an example of her work is a community mediation in the East Kimberley region during 2016 to 2017.
Professor Chris BA (Hons) BD, MA PhD London is the Diana Unwin Chair in Restorative Justice at Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand. In making the Award, the Board recognised Chris’s passion for conflict resolution and peacemaking, as well as his significant contribution to the development and promotion of restorative justice.
In choosing Chris for the Award, the board recognises Chris’ passion and perseverance in providing students with the experience of cooperative dispute resolution of legal, social and personal disputes.
Professor Dale (Dip Soc Stud, BA, M Soc Admin, PhD), is an adjunct with the School of Psychology, Social Work and Social Policy, University of South Australia where she was previously a Head of School, Program Director of postgraduate programmes in mediation and conflict resolution, and Director of the Centre for Peace, Conflict and Mediation.
Micheline regularly coaches on mediation courses and is an assessor of mediator competency for the National Mediator Accreditation System.
The Honourable Murray Kellam AO was the recipient of the 2012 Michael Klug Award in recognition of his work educating judiciary overseas on juvenile justice and human rights for children, through his work with UNICEF in Bangladesh, Mongolia and Myanmar (Burma).
Dr Michael King, Magistrate for the East Kimberley, Western Australia, was presented the 2011 Michael Klug Award in May 2011 in Perth in recognition of his work in non-adversarial justice.
The inaugural Michael Klug Award was awarded to Dr Stella Cornelius in May 2010 in recognition of her remarkable contribution to the peaceful resolution of conflict.
