The CJC provides mediation, training and community peacemaking services across the Northern Territory. We are part of the Department of the Attorney-General and Justice and operate under the Community Justice Centre Act 2005. We are working with Aboriginal communities across the Territory to support the growth of mediation and community peacemaking.

Barkly Regional Deal
The Barkly Regional Deal (BRD) is a commitment between the Australian Government, the Northern Territory Government and the Barkly Regional Council to improve the productivity and liveability of the Barkly region by stimulating economic growth, improving social outcomes and supporting local Aboriginal leadership.

Senior Project Manager - Key Duties and Responsibilities
• Drive the design and delivery of the Community Mediation Initiative in collaboration with the Community Wellbeing and Safety Partnership Group, and under the direction of the Barkly Governance Table, the Regional Executive Director – Barkly and the CJC Director.
• Lead a co-design process that identifies community-led ideas and solutions for conflict resolution and that strengthens local leadership in conflict management.
• Coordinate and facilitate conflict resolution skills workshops in Tennant Creek and communities in the Barkly region.
• Manage a local team, and identify and support a local panel of Aboriginal mediators.
• Develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with colleagues and stakeholders at regional and community levels.
• Prepare a service model for community mediation and other high-level project documents, reports and ministerial briefings.

Key Points

  • Demonstrated leadership, management and negotiation skills, especially in the delivery of complex or sensitive projects.
  • Extensive experience in facilitation, community engagement or community education, particularly in Aboriginal communities.
  • Strong applied understanding of co-design principles and processes, and of culturally safe practice when working with Aboriginal families and communities in the Northern Territory.
  • Advanced writing skills and a demonstrated ability to write for a range of audiences and purposes.
  • Confidence and skills in managing high conflict situations, and in assessing and responding to conflict and risk.
  • Strong cultural awareness and an understanding of the drivers and impacts of conflict and violence in Aboriginal communities.
