Complete the role play assessment to apply for Resolution Institute Mediation Accreditation
What is an online assessment?
An online assessment is a 1.5-2 hour mediation simulation conducted on Zoom, a video conferencing tool used to virtually facilitate mediation assessments. This means that anyone can participate in an assessment from any location.
The online process is similar to a face to face assessment. An assessment coordinator will facilitate the assessment by starting and recording the assessment. The coordinator will not be in the meeting room during the assessment but can assist as required.
How do I register?
We offer four session times for each assessment date: 9.30am, 11.30am, 1.30pm and 3.30pm. Please indicate your preferred time in the registration form. Time slots will be allocated on a first come first serve basis. We will confirm the time of your assessment within five business days of receiving your registration.
How is the assessment conducted?
One week prior to your assessment, you will receive a confirmation email which contains a guide to online assessments, self assessment form, role play scenario and Zoom meeting link. Prior to the assessment, you will be invited to run through the Zoom controls with the assessment coordinator.
There are four parts to your assessment:
- Questionnaire: When we have received your assessment registration we will email you a questionnaire to complete along with supporting materials to read, digest and use to complete the questionnaire along with your own experience. We will provide you with a date to return this questionnaire prior to your assessment date.
- Pre-assessment meeting with assessor: A half hour Zoom meeting to meet your assessor and chat over the assessment process and any questions you have.
- Role play: During the role play you will play the role of a mediator and volunteers play the role of the two parties in the simulated dispute. The mediation session must be 1.5-2 hours long and a Resolution Institute assessor will be present. You will be emailed the common facts for your role play in the week prior to your assessment.
- Self assessment: After your role play, you must complete the questions in the self assessment form, reflecting on what you think you did well and what you could have done better. We will email you the self assessment form with your preparation materials.
Our Resolution Institute assessor will consider your questionnaire, role play and your self assessment to determine whether you have "demonstrated competency" or have "not yet demonstrated competency". Depending on assessor availability, we will email you the result within four weeks.
Prerequisites
To be eligible to sit an assessment, you must have:
- Completed a Resolution Institute five day mediation workshop; or
- Applied to Resolution Institute to have your training recognised as having met the requirements of the approval standards of NMAS in Australia or Resolution Institute Mediation Accreditation scheme in New Zealand.
Our assessors
Our panel of assessors are independent of the training team and have significant experience as mediators.
Your next steps
If you are assessed as demonstrating competency, Resolution Institute will then grant you Resolution Institute Mediation Accreditation. In order to hold this accreditation you are required to hold Professional membership with Resolution Institute. Once you have been accredited, Resolution Institute will communicate with you to create a Professional membership.
