Reality Testing in Mediation

with Christopher Boyle
Tuesday, 03 October 2023 | 5.15pm – 7pm Perth Time (Kick-off at 5.30pm) | Squire Patton Boggs | Face to face in Perth

Join us for our upcoming event, which will revolve around the recently published paper by the MSB titled "Playing Devil’s Advocate’: Reality Testing in the Context of Mediation in Australia." This paper, authored by Lola Akin Ojelabi and Alysoun Boyle, will be a focal point of our discussions. Additionally, the Committee has taken note of the updates to the Mediator Standards published by the MSB, which also address the revised NMAS structure.

We're particularly excited about Mr. Boyle's prominent role and his extensive expertise regarding the MSB. This event offers attendees a unique opportunity to engage in lively conversations and meaningful discussions enriched by his insights. We believe his participation will greatly enhance the networking experience and contribute to the overall success of the event.

About the presenter

Christopher Boyle

Christopher Boyle was born in Perth and is a law graduate of the University of WA. He was admitted to practice in December 1975 and from February 1976 practised in Harvey and Bunbury. What was intended to be three to five years became nearly 19.
Christopher was the Country Member or an Ordinary Member of the Council of the Law Society of Western Australia for a total of 11 years. In 1990, he was in the first cohort of Western Australian practitioners to obtain accreditation as specialist family lawyers.
In the process of moving back to the city, Christopher taught Legal Practice and Documentation at Murdoch University and in late 1994 became the founding Director of the Articles Training Program, which post he held for four years. He became a permanent Registrar of the Supreme Court of WA in 2000 and during more than 20 years at the Court conducted more than 1500 mediations (he gave up counting long ago).
Since retiring from the Court, Christopher has been increasingly engaged as a Director of the Mediator Standards Board and since October 2021 has been the Chair of the Board. In the time left over, he is a private mediator.
