Our Speakers

Shiv Martin

Shiv is a nationally accredited mediator, practicing lawyer, conciliator, decision maker and certified vocational trainer. She has engaged in complex dispute resolution, stakeholder engagement and team building in the government, education and justice sectors for the past 15 years, occupying various executive and senior panel appointments for state  and federal government agencies. Shiv delivers facilitation, dispute resolution and training services that seek to build our capacity to connect, build relationships and problem solve through better conversations.

 

Cobie Britt

Cobie Britt is a Yuwaalaraay woman from Goodooga in Northern NSW; and, founder of Dhuurran Consulting, an Aboriginal consultancy supporting Aboriginal organisations and Government agencies. With over 25 years’ experience in the Aboriginal Land Rights sector, including four years with the Office of the Registrar, Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983, Cobie brings deep expertise in governance, compliance, systems design, community engagement, and dispute resolution. She works collaboratively with communities and organisations to improve decision-making, strengthen practices, and deliver sustainable outcomes for First Nations people and organisations. 

Cobie will share insights on the topic: "From Hearing to Understanding: Centering First Nations Voices in Investigations"

 

Adam Boyce

Adam Boyce, Deputy Ombudsman and Public Transport Ombudsman team Victoria, will share insights on the topic: "Digital Transformation on a limited budget"

 

 Rachel Holt

Rachel Holt is the Senior Executive of the Investigation and Conciliation Service (ICS) at the Australian Human Rights Commission (Commission). Rachel has an academic background in law and English literature and over 15 years’ experience working in federal discrimination law (initially as a lawyer focusing on disability discrimination in employment). For the past 8 years Rachel has led the complaint handling function of the Commission. With a team of approximately 35 staff, Rachel oversees one of the Commission’s core statutory mandates: inquiring into and attempting to conciliate federal discrimination and human rights complaints. Rachel is a passionate advocate for the creative and empowering role that alternative dispute resolution can play within the justice system.

William Cocks

William Cocks has almost 20 years as a Conciliator at the Australian Human Rights Commission, currently in the Investigation Conciliation Section SAT team which is trialing new ways of managing complaints efficiently and effectively.

Rachel Holt and William Cocks from the Australian Human Rights Commission will deliver a session on: “Balancing Risk, Quality and Efficiency: Creative complaint handling” This session will outline strategies implemented by the Commission to increase timeliness of the complaint process and respond to increased demands on our service while maintaining flexibility, responsiveness and quality of service delivery.

The panel speakers from NNTT will focus on Embedding Cultural Competence in Mediation and Conciliation: How the NNTT is working to align accreditation, training and process design to better meet the needs of First Nations parties.

Amanda Gamble

Amanda Gamble has worked in the native title sector or over 15 years, at the Federal Court of Australia and the National Native Title Tribunal and is currently working in the post-determination space. Amanda has worked in various Federal Government Agencies for 28 years focusing on improving services to Indigenous Australians. 

Shona Tostevin

Manager of the Dispute Resolution and Information Service, Office of the Public Advocate (South Australia)

Shona began a career in mediation eighteen years ago.  She worked in the community sector as a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner for nine years before joining the Office of the Public Advocate as an Elder Mediator.  Shona trained as a Conflict Coach, Elder Mediator and Elder Caring Coordinator.  For the last two years, Shona has led a team as the Manager of Dispute Resolution and Information Services.

Shona will be presenting on the topic - "Resolving post-Advance Care Planning disputes in South Australia: Elder mediation in the shadow of the law."

 

Bryce Williamson

 

Bryce Williamson is the Director of Commonwealth Treasury’s Responsible Business Conduct Unit and Head of the Secretariat to the Australian National Contact Point for Responsible Business Conduct (AusNCP). He has previously worked across a range of corporate accountability and regulatory issues, including de-banking, foreign investment, anti-money laundering, multinational tax avoidance, and combatting the shadow economy. Prior to joining the AusNCP, Bryce served as a Senior Adviser supporting the delivery of the Australian Government’s Economic Reform Roundtable.

Bryce will share insights on the topic “Developments in Disputes and Complaints Involving Multinational Enterprises: An AusNCP Perspective”.

 

Riki Jamieson-Smyth

Riki Jamieson-Smyth is the Manager, Investigations & Dispute Resolution at the Office of the Privacy Commissioner (OPC) in New Zealand. Riki is a lawyer and mediator, and has worked in dispute resolution since 2011, first at the Electricity and Gas Complaints Commissioner’s Office (now Utilities Disputes) and then since 2014 leading the investigations and dispute resolution function at OPC. She is passionate about best practice dispute resolution and brings deep experience in managing a large team conducting complex statutory investigations. Riki has also run more than 100 conciliations over the last 15 years.  

Riki will be speaking about the recent steps she has taken to protect her team from increasing levels of unreasonable complaint conduct, setting out the tools and behaviours that have worked for her.

 

Neil Mallon

Commissioner & CEO of Utilities Disputes |Tautohetohe Whaipainga

Neil is Utilities Disputes CEO & Commissioner. A lawyer with extensive experience working with complaints and regulation, he has held senior and GM roles for national regulatory organisations in New Zealand and the UK. Neil is a member of the Australian and New Zealand Ombudsman Association (ANZOA), the peak body for Ombudsman in Australia and New Zealand, and joined its executive in 2025. Utilities Disputes is a not-for-profit organisation and has been providing the dispute resolution scheme for New Zealand’s energy sector for the last 25 years. It also provides telecommunications, broadband and water complaints schemes.

Neil will share insights on Adapting the approach to dispute resolution to meet the changing needs of customers

Over the past five years Utilities Disputes has seen complaints increase by five hundred percent, at a time when consumers and companies have less patience, time and energy to dedicate to resolving them. Neil will discuss how Utilities Disputes has adapted its complaint handling and dispute resolution approach to respond to the changing needs of its customers, while maintaining standards and looking after its people.

You must contact Resolution Institute and advise the name you would like your registration substituted to. Post 30th of April, substitutions aren't allowed.

  • Cancellation (applicable only for individual registrations) - Cancellations must be received in writing via email.
    • Less than 14 days, not eligible for refund
    • 15 days or more notice, a refund of the total fee less a $50 cancelation charge applies per registration
    • Once an invoice has been issued, payment is required within seven (7) days. If payment is not received within this period, the seat will be released and made available for other registrants.
    • Any registrations within the last 14 days of the event, payment is required on the day of the invoice..
